What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Contact forms

This website utilizes Akismet to prevent SPAM submissions to contact forms on this website. The contact form submission data — IP address, user agent, name, email address, website, and message — is submitted to the Akismet service (also owned by Automattic) for the sole purpose of spam checking.

The actual submission data is stored in the database for this site upon submission and is emailed directly to the owner of the form (i.e. the site author who published the page on which the contact form resides). This email will include the submitter’s IP address, timestamp, name, email address, website, and message. Submitted data is retained for customer service purposes only, and will not be used for marketing purposes.

Cookies

Cookies are files with small amount of data that is commonly used as an anonymous unique identifier. These are sent to your browser from the website that you visit and are stored on your computer’s hard drive.

Our website uses these “cookies” to collect information and improve our Service. You have the option to either accept or refuse these cookies, and know when a cookie is being sent to your computer. If you choose to refuse our cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our Service.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Linking to other websites

Throughout the site, you may encounter links to other websites and when you click these links, you are visiting sites not under HPI’s responsibility. Their privacy policies may be different than ours, and we encourage you to read them.

Site Analytics: Google Analytics and CrazyEgg

This website utilizes Google Analytics to provide aggregate usage statistics to the website owner. The activities tracked may include, but are not limited to: page views, click events, video play events, form submissions, scrolling distance and time. For more information, you can review Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, or contact us with further questions.

This website utilizes CrazyEgg to provide aggregate usage maps to the website owner. The activities tracked may include scroll depth, clicks, page views, pointer movements and touchpoints. For more information, you can review CrazyEgg’s Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, or contact us with further questions.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Search

Any of the visitor-chosen search filters and query data in order to process a search request on the servers is collected to provide statistics to the website owner in order to improve our Service.

Security

The security of your Personal Information is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Who we share your data with

We are the sole owners of the information collected on this site. We only have access to/collect information that you voluntarily give us via email or other direct contact from you. We will not sell or rent this information to anyone. We will use your information to respond to you, regarding the reason you contacted us. We will not share your information with any third party outside of our organization, other than as necessary to fulfill your request – to pay your rent for example. Unless you ask us not to, we may contact you via email in the future to tell you about new services, or changes to this privacy policy.

Third parties

We partner with Authorize.net to process transactions for tax deductible donations. When the user signs up for these services, we will share names, or other contact information that is necessary for the third party to provide these services. These parties are not allowed to use personally identifiable information except for the purpose of providing these services.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Google Analytics data (anonymized) is retained for 26 months beyond your last visit to the website.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
